Bid In Cards

INDESIGN

INDESIGN
QUARK
For the Bid in Cards it took a lot of time to get everything right. This was defenitly the most time consuming project we have had in this class. Indesign was the easist to use. I really did not like Quark at all. In Indesign the tools were more acsessable and easy to find where as in Quark it made it harder to find the tools you needed. I had a hard time curning the letters in Indesign but once I found the tool in was 10 times easier. In quark it took me so long to find the tool I couldn't find it for a couple of days so I had to postpone doing the heading for a while. After I found the tool it was just as easy as Indesign. Finding the magazine cover was a little hard but after I went on the Nylon website I figured it out. I really had a hard time finding fonts for the cards. On my card there were so many different fonts that it made it hard to find the exact ones. If I had more time to work on these cards then I would have concentrated more on the fonts and making sure I had the exact ones. Overall I feel like I did a good job and made it look almost the same as the original. In the end I did like this project even though it took a lot of time. I still feel like I learned a lot from this project.

Web Site for Brochure

For my online brochure of Cirque du Soleil, I went with a simple yet clean and elegant look. The lay out is basic but it is easy to find everything on the home page as well as on the other pages. I decided to choose a color scheme of black, pink, and blue. The other pages: About, Ticket, and Contact are highlighted in these colors. On the home page there are colorful pictures that show scenes of Cirque du Soleil. On the top of the Home page there is About, Ticket, and Contact. Then at then bottom of the page there is the Belgio Hotel at Las Vegas and this is where the show O is being preformed. O is one of the many Cirque du Soleil shows. The other pages are simple as well but give a lot of information about the show and where you can buy tickets.

Brochure

For my Brochure my partner and I decided to do Cirque Du Soleil at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. This is something that my partner and I are really interested in Cirque Du Soleil and I hope some day I will be able to go see it. We wanted to use bright colors and pictures to demonstrate how lively of a performance it is. We were hoping to achieve a professional, yet fun look for the brochure. I feel we have successfully achieved this goal.

I found it hard to get certain pictures that were not pixilated. It was surprising to see that on the website they did not have high quality pictures. We had to be very selective about what pictures we used and how to make them look good on the brochure. Placing the images and adding text was fun but also a little challenging because we had to figure out how to fit the information in without running out of room. Figuring out how the brochure was going to appear in the end was hard. We maid some mistakes and placed some picture in wrong spots, but we fixed it and replaced them. Also choosing the right text was difficult but we deicided to go with Times TT.

I am most proud of how we worked together as a team and how we solved the problems equally. I really liked how our lay out of the brochure came out and how well the final copy appeared. The pictures look really good and they go with the color scheme really well. I like how we have a lot of information on our topic but we also added information on the Bellagio Hotel because this is where the performance is held.

If I had more time I would go back and try to find better pictures and maybe a get a quote from someone that has seen the performance. I also would have done more research on the play its self and talk more about the different acts in the play. Overall I feel we did a great job and that it came out really good. I am very happy with the final copy of the project.

Concert Poster No Doubt

For the poster No Doubt I did a couple of different designs and individual posters. I decided to post two of them because I thought these were my favorite ones and I felt I did the best on these two. For the one poster I did individual text boxes as the back round and then colored in all of them to blend together. This was kind of hard to figure out because I had to make all the colors blend together nicely and make sure that each box worked. For the other poster, I did a gradient back round and use two different colors to create the final back round.

For both posters I worked in Photo Shop first, then transferred then whole image into Quark. I altered the picture of the band in Photo Shop using different techniques and magic erase tool to cut out the back round. In both posters I had trouble getting the images to erase and cut the back round out. A couple of the band members got their heads cut off and I didn’t know how to fix this. Over all, I still think they both look good even though the pictures are not too well put together. I from there went into Quark and played around with the text boxes and using different kinds of fonts. I did not have any layers beside the one that I used. I overlapped everything and using the texts boxes to over lap over the picture. I was kind of confused that there were not layers like there were in Photo Shop. After I played around with it for a while I got the hang of it.

I really worked hard on both of these posters. All together I did four posters. I had a lot of fun just playing around with Quark trying new things. I really enjoyed doing this assignment.

PowerPoint Presentation

The PowerPoint presentation I chose the band Slightly Stoopid. I did five slides, which included info and pictures of the band. For the first slide I did had interesting facts about the band and fun pictures on it. I had each bullet fade out and used the brush on color for the effect. This was a little hard at first to figure out the custom animation, but after I figured it out it made it much easier to use it for the other slides. The second slide I had one of the bands album, Closer to the Sun, and all its songs titles and track times. At first I used the album cover as the back round but it didn't look good and I decided to just have a small picture of the album instead. I also created a 3 color gradient for all the back rounds of all the slides. It was fun to create this and play around with each slide. For the third slide I did a comparison chart on different bands and artist. On the chart I had the band, where they were from, their influence and their hit songs; all in comparison to one another. The last slide I arranged a bunch of pictures of the band and had them all fly using the custom animation. This was a fun effect and I felt it tied the whole powerpoint presentation together.

I am very proud of this project and learned a lot from it. I also had a lot of fun doing it. I am most proud of my comparison chart with all the different bands. I did one chart first then decided I did not like it and wanted to add more to it. In the end, I had each tile, band, and category all come in at different times. I had to make a separate chart to figure this out. It took me a while but I finally ended up with a great result.

Collage Video

For this collage video I chose these photos because I thought they went well with my font poem. The coloring of the photos adjusted well with the colors of the font poem. I started with a black back round and then slowly added the words in as well as the collage. Both of them fade in together and the opacity gets brighter as they fade in. I am really happy with this video and I think it turned out really good. The only thing that I would do differently would be to add the collage photos one at a time into the video then the words in. I couldn't figure out how to do this, but next time if I do something like this I will try to do it. Other than that I am extremely happy with it.

Font Poem

Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life…

Pablo Picasso

For my font poem I choose to have a quote from Pablo Picasso because he is one of my favorite artist. I feel his quote is strong and says a lot about the type of artist he was. I do believe that art does come from the soul of everyday life and it washes over you when you don’t even notice it. Art is a very powerful thing and it is in our everyday lives. Everything we do is art; from our body movement to how we speak. It is the soul the dust of everyday life.

The fonts that I choose for displaying this quote were Ozwald, Serif Gothic, Smaragd Lt, Olympian, Parisian, Perpetua, Prestige, Revue. This took me a lot of time to pick out each type of font because I wanted to make sure that each one was the right fit for each word. I arranged the words the way I did because I thought it look clean and classic. I didn’t want to have too much one the page, but I also added color to make the words pop. At first finding how to use color was hard. I got so confused and couldn’t figure out how to select a certain color. After playing around with all the tools I finally figure out how to put color onto the page.

I never thought I would enjoy doing this assignment. It actually was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about different kinds of fonts and how to arrange them in unique ways.

Contact Sheet

For my first line of my contact sheet, I was lucky to find a 1200dpi from fliker.com. This made it easier because I didn’t have to search very hard and I also didn’t have to change the resolution of the photo. I was quickly able to reduce the resolution to 600dpi. It was interesting to see the difference between the 600dpi and the 1200dpi. Then after making the photo 300dpi I could definitely see a change in the photo, where as the 600dpi photo hadn’t change too much. Comparing all three images next to one another was very interesting and I could see the difference in all of them.

The second line was a little bit more challenging. I found it hard to get a really good colorful picture that I liked on both websites. I had a hard time figuring out how to change the photo to Color CMYK. I also had to change the size of the photo to make sure that it wasn’t 1inch taller. I found it easier to change the photo to Color RGB because the process was the same, but just clicking on a different color format. The Duotone was fun in a way because I go to play around with the different colors, but I had a hard time finding a color that would work best with the picture. After I dragged each photo to the contact page, I made the mistake by not putting them in the right spot. I had to copy and paste each image until I got it right.

The third line was very easy. I found a great image on morguefile.com. Cropping each photo I had to be careful and to make sure that each image was the right size. The portrait and square came out great, but the landscape I had trouble with because I didn’t make it the right size. I realized the sizing wasn’t right after I thought I was done, but I fixed it and it looks great. Also all my images in the last row were slightly cut off by the margin. I had to make to frame of the contact sheet bigger to make sure that each image fits on the page.

The fourth line we had to focus on framing. I had a hard time understanding how to do it. I also, couldn’t find a great picture that was 1200 resolution. It took me most of the class to find a good picture for this line. I finally got a picture, then started to frame it, but I couldn’t figure out how to get the cropping tool up on my tool bar. I finally had to go up to tools and select it. After this I did pretty good, except for when I didn’t make all the pictures 1 height. I had to go back and redo all of them. This was frustrating, but in the end I got it to all work out.

The fifth line was focused on content of the picture. This was hard because you had to making sure that the last picture was abstract. I first started off with another picture. After realizing that it wasn’t a very good photo to use because the resolution wasn’t high enough. I had to start over and choose a different photo. This took me about 10mins to do. It’s sometimes hard to get a really good photo, and it can be frustrating. After I got the right photo it was all down hill from there.

Last but not least, the sixth line was a lot of fun to do. I had a lot of fun playing with the different tools to make to photo appear differently. My favorite one was the Dry Brush tool and then Artistic-Palette Knife. I choose an elephant photo. I thought it was interesting to see how all the different tools appeared on the elephant. This was one of my favorite things that we did on this contact sheet. Over all, really enjoyed doing this, and I thought it was a great way to introduce this course. I am really looking forward learn new things and experience this course.
